Meon Valley Alpacas offer regular Husbandry Courses. These include our Beginners Day Course, 'An Introduction to Alpacas' covering all aspects of Alpaca Ownership from Field Maintenance to Breeding Decisions, ideal for those thinking about keeping alpacas or new owners. Next Course Dates: Saturday 24 July 2010 and Saturday 25 September 2010 10.00 am Coffee and Introductions. Alpaca management - basic requirements - how to look after them day to day- routine vaccinations, worming, toenail trimming, teeth, nutrition, shearing, biosecurity, breeding. Financial considerations whether keeping a couple as field pets or when starting up an alpaca business. Handling systems - a look around Meon Valley Alpacas to see how we run our herd, discussing fencing, catch areas, shelters, field maintenance etc. 12.30 pm Lunch Fleece and conformation - what to look for when buying an alpaca. Alpaca assessments- a practical session with hands-on look and feel the differences in conformation and fleece. Viewing of Meon Valley Sale alpacas. 4.30 pm Tea and Question Time The course fee of £35 includes lunch. Courses fill quickly, so please check for availability and request a booking form.
