Salt Dough Alpacas

Whilst looking around a local craft fair I came across some salt dough dolls and animals. I thought it would be a lovely idea to have an alpaca done, so I commissioned one. The result was not so pleasing, but still inspired I decided to have a go myself.

Hours later and a lot of floury mess to clear up, I had sculpted and baked a fair likeness of an alpaca! I was really very surprised how much I enjoyed this and that I was even able to get this far. We went out the next day and I bought some acrylic paint and varnish and spent most of the evening painting "Silva". I was really pleased with it, but knew I could do better - so I just kept on making them, until I was happy with the result.

The "pacas", our family slang for alpacas are really fun, lots of people have admired them, even alpaca people and many have suggested that I make them to order. So, if you would like one, send me a photo of your favourite alpaca (or llama) and I will make one for you. They are about 8" tall and will hang on the wall or rest on the mantelpiece or you can use them as a paper weight. Send me a cheque for £23 which will include post and packing.
